History

Gadjah mada Shuttlecock

In 1920, a couple Souw Wan Tjwan and Liem Kim Hee from Bumiayu enjoyed spending their time playing badminton. During that time, shuttlecocks were very expensive and dominated by foreign brands like Green Flash, Blue Bird, and Toyoda. So, they thought about the fate of badminton players and decided to make their shuttlecocks. Initially, Souw Wan Tjwan found a dead duck floating in the river behind their house. He plucked its feathers to use as a material for practicing making shuttlecocks.

Fast forward to April 14, 1939, notary R.M. Soedja in Purwokerto witnessed the official establishment of their trading company, known as NEDERLANCH INDISCHE INDUSTRIEELE COMPANY (NIIC) FABRIKANTE VAN BADMINTON SHUTTLECOCKS, now joined by Liem Khe Oen. From 1934 onwards, various shuttlecock brands they produced, such as Robin Hood, Flash Gordon, Mascol, Service, Arrow, Golden Voice, Sea Gull, and Royal, fell under the NIIC trademark.

In 1970, they took their business to a new location, relocating from Bumiayu to Tegal, Central Java. Here, they established a shuttlecock production venture named "Gadjah Mada Shuttlecock," continuing their legacy of providing high-quality shuttlecocks for badminton enthusiasts.
